Private yoga therapy sessions have covered areas ranging from chronic pain and fibromyalgia to functional yoga therapy, arthritis and osteoporosis. Specialty areas include yoga for the heart (grief, depression and heart disease), yoga for stress and trauma, meditation (with a focus on anxiety and depression), yoga nidra and yoga nidra for caregivers, chair yoga, gentle and senior yoga, yoga for moms and babies, and yoga for the under served.
Regular yoga practice since 1991. Certification as a yoga teacher in 2000 and registration with Yoga Alliance since 2001, currently at the 500 hour level. Certification as a yoga therapist through Inner Peace Yoga Therapy (an IAYT registered school) in 2013. Currently working toward IAYT certification.
Certification in beginning and intermediate Integral Yoga Hatha and stress management is through Satchidananda Ashram-Yogaville and forms the basis for most classes. 2014 certification in Yoga Nidra is through the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center. Completed the Veterans Yoga Project Mindful Yoga Therapy Teacher Training in 2012. Many other specialized training programs have been completed aimed at making the therapeutic benefits of yoga accessible to all.
Volunteer with Capital Caring, a Northern Virginia hospice organization in many capacities over the course of 15 years, currently teaching yoga and mediation to bereavement groups. Volunteer taught yoga at Bread for the City, a DC social services agency for about four years. Volunteer in a variety of capacities with Self-Realization Fellowship over about twenty years. Have served as middle school mentor and non-profit board member in the more distant past.
