IAYT’s accreditation program has grown tremendously since the IAYT Board convened the Accreditation Committee in 2012. To date, we’ve received close to 68 applications from Member Schools, have accredited 27 programs, and have another 27 applications in active review. And in 2018, our first accredited programs will be up for re-accreditation! We’ve learned so much from our applicants and Schools with accredited programs, and have refined our processes based on their feedback. School membership continues to grow, as does active interest in accreditation. It’s wonderful experience to be part the emergence of our field within healthcare and to witness the maturation of our Schools as educators of yoga therapists.

Growth invariably leads to change. Earlier this year, our current Accreditation Manager, Aggie Stewart, MA, C-IAYT, decided that it was time to return to private practice as a yoga therapist and to dive back deeply into her personal writing. And so our search began for someone both experienced as an accreditor as well as knowledgeable about yoga and yoga therapy, someone who could bring IAYT accreditation to the next level. We are thrilled to have found someone with these attributes and abilities – Annette Watson.

Annette brings more than 11 years of experience in leadership positions within healthcare accreditation, first with the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. A nurse by original training, Annette developed a passion for performance improvement and case management, and retuned to school to earn an MBA with a concentration in Leadership. In addition to her experience as an accreditor, she’s also a yoga teacher, a yoga therapist in training, and Reiki Master teacher of the Usui lineage.

Aggie will remained in the Accreditation Manager position until Labor Day at which point she handed the baton to Annette. Over the summer, she worked to bring Annette up to speed. Aggie will remain with the accreditation staff team, which includes Danielle Atkinson, for another year, working with applicants as they make their way through the application review process and providing technical support to Schools who are due for re-accreditation in 2018.

Please join all of us at IAYT in extending a warm welcome to Annette!
