Swami Kuvalyananda Scholarship Awards and Travel Grant

Swami Kuvalyananda was the pioneer of scientific research in the field of Yoga. He established the Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute in the year 1924, wherein he also started the first research journal of yoga, Yoga Mimamsa. The institute works in the field of yoga through scientific and philosophic literary research, training and therapy (www.kdham.com).

In honor of Swami Kuvalyananda, there will be multiple scholarship award opportunities available to support your attendance at the 2015 Symposium on Yoga Research. Most are for new investigators but one is specific for a researcher from India. All scholarship awards are based on the merit of your accepted research abstract. If you would like to be considered for one of the scholarships, please indicate this by entering the appropriate information in the abstract submission form.

We will have five research scholarship awards of $108. One award will be for an author attending the conference from India.  There will be four awards for abstracts with the lead author from North America. One of the awards will be for a student and three will be for recent graduates with their terminal degree within three years of SYR 2015.  (The awards committee may modify this structure if circumstances warrant.)

The scholarship award for the researcher from India also comes with a travel grant of $1,500 and conference registration.  The recepient will be responsible for lodging at Kripalu.  A wide variety of lodging arrangements are available at Kripalu, ranging from $74 to $331 per night, with meals.  Note that traveling from India may require coming early in order to recover from jet lag as well as staying later to make subsequent travel arrangements.  The award recipient must be prepared to cover lodging costs.  We encourage all submitting authors from India to ensure they have, or can obtain, sufficient sources of support right away.

On the Abstract Submission Form you will be asked to indicate:
  • If you are a current student, or
  • If you are a recent graduate (within 3 years) of a terminal degree (PhD, MD, etc.)
  • If a recent graduate, the date of graduation
  • Your country (Awards are available for those from India and North America)
Directors note:  IAYT is extremely grateful and supportive of these awards to honor the yoga research legacy of Swami Kuvalyananda.  If you would like to help us grow the support for these awards, please contact us.
