Presenting Sunday Morning Practice Session - MPSU02


David Adams, C-IAYT

As a professional athlete David began practicing Yoga while enrolled at the Australian Institute of Sport in 1991. Since 2007 he has logged over 15,000 hours teaching group and private Therapeutic Yoga in the Los Angeles area. He continues his studies in India and Nepal regularly, focusing on the healing tradition of Krishnamacharya, Vedic Mantra/philosophy, and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, most recently at the KYM in Chennai in July 2018.

Following the basic principles established by Professor Krishnamacharya - Treat each student as an individual on every level of self. This requires a solid relationship between the teacher and the student built on healthy communication and real trust. Being a studio owner and forging a career in Yoga Therapy, David clearly understands this is the foundation of the healing process and often the catalyst for a desire for the most powerful, positive and sustainable change, that which comes from within.

Michelle Andrie, C-IAYT, E-RYT 500

You'll work with an IAYT certified yoga therapist who’s been guiding students and clients to whole body healing for three decades. Michelle Andrie's successfully owned three yoga therapy studios, a yoga therapy retreat center, and a Yoga Alliance Approved teacher training school.

Michelle's written yoga therapy books and manuals and produced a Partner Yoga DVD featured in Yoga Journal. Michelle's trained 335 Yoga Therapists. Guided 1000's of students to health and healing. She currently teaches on the Big Island of Hawaii. She also has a blog and her Yoga Therapy Practices online at agelessmovemore.com.

Kelly Birch, MS, NCC, C-IAYT

Kelly Birch has practiced yoga and Buddhist-based mindfulness for three decades, with extensive training and teaching experience. Since 2004, she has taught yoga to diverse populations and yoga therapy clients. Kelly completed her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Southern Oregon University in 2017 and is a board-certified counselor with an integrative psychotherapy practice in Ashland, Oregon, accumulating hours for licensure. Kelly is on the DBT of Southern Oregon treatment team, co-facilitating several groups.

Kelly is co-editor on the book Yoga and Mental Health (2018, Handspring Publishers, UK). From 2010 to 2017, Kelly was the editor of Yoga Therapy Today and was the founding editor of the Journal of Yoga Service, a peer-reviewed publication of the Yoga Service Council. She is adjunct faculty at Endicott College in Massachusetts. With a BA in biology, Kelly worked in scientific research in Berkeley, CA, for several years.

Julie Carmen, LMFT, C-IAYT, ERYT-500, YTRx

Julie Carmen Hoffman is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a certified Yoga Therapist. She is Founder and Director of Yoga Therapy for Mental Health clinical practicum in co-operation with Venice Family Clinic. Julie is Director of Mental Health at Loyola Marymount University Yoga Therapy Rx and teaches ‘Healthy Families in a Toxic World’ for the LMU ‘Yoga, Mindfulness and Social Change’ certificate program. Julie had rigorous training and experience as a drama therapist at Cell Block Theater (1975-1979) with ex-convicts in New York City, run by a godfather of drama therapy, Ray Gordon. Julie designed and implemented the yoga therapy and drama therapy departments at Passages dual diagnosis residential treatment center in Malibu 2001- 2003 and she taught yoga at Monte Nido Eating Disorder Center for four years, contributing a chapter to the book, ‘Yoga and Eating Disorders’ (Routeledge, 2016). Julie developed Suzanne Somers' Yoga for Hormones protocol and has been her private instructor since 2002. Julie taught at Exhale Center for Sacred Movement 2001-2013. She currently has private psychotherapy and yoga therapy practices and is Founder of Yoga Talks. www.yogatalks.com

 John Childers, C-IAYT

John Childers is a former high school teacher who studied yoga at The Center for Yoga in LA. In 1992 he was one of five teachers to open Yogaworks in Orange County. He also taught at the Sports Club Irvine and numerous companies. In 1997 he joined the International Association of Yoga Therapists. He opened Full Spectrum Yoga in 2000. There he created the first 200-hour Yoga Alliance certified program in Orange County. In 2006 he opened a yoga therapy office in a natural healing center. In 2016 he published A YOGA PILL FOR EVERY ILL: Therapeutic Hatha Yoga. The book focuses on healing through conscious breathing and posture. Having taught over 20,000 yoga classes and individual therapy sessions, John believes that it is only through a change of consciousness can we truly heal. For him, consciousness is the evolutionary impulse of love wrapped in creativity and wisdom.

Marsha Danzig, M.Ed, RYT 500, C-IAYT

Marsha Therese Danzig is the founder of Yoga For Amputees. She is a below knee amputee who has been practicing yoga on and off the mat for many years. In addition to Yoga for Amputees, Marsha is a passionate flamenco dancer .

Staffan Elgelid, PT, PhD, C-IAYT, GCFP. RYT 500

Dr Staffan Elgelid is an Associate Professor of Physical Therapy at nazareth College in Rochester NY. Staffan is a Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner and Yoga Therapist. His Yoga approach is influenced by his Feldenkrais training. His main focus with clients is to help them build a nervous system that is robust and agile enough to allow them to learn new activities, enhance present activities, and to withstand the stresses of daily life no matter their age or situation. Staffan teaches in Yoga Therapy programs, conducts workshops nationally and internationally and sees private clients. Staffan is the co-author of "Yoga for Stress and Anxiety", as well as the forthcoming (spring 2017) "Yoga Therapy: A Personalized Approach For Your Active Lifestyle." Staffan has also produced DVD's on topics such as core training and Yoga for sports. Staffan is on the Advisory Board of the IAYT and a board member of the Yoga Alliance.

Kristin English, C-IAYT

Kristin has been a yoga enthusiast for over 25 years. Transformation is her focus and passion. She believes that the key to true happiness, true contentment, is through a shift in our relationship with our selves. She works to create awareness and personal growth with people in all stages of life. Fusing foundations in Hatha Yoga, Therapeutic Yoga, Bio-Mechanics and Vipassana Meditation, she provides a safe and healing environment for the process of transformation to flower.

Her newest studies have been in the realm of biomechanics and natural movement. Studying under the "Nutritious Movement" program created by Biomechanist Katy Bowman, she has integrated this new structural information. Considering and correcting for the shape that our modern sedentary lifestyles and technologies have impressed upon on our bodies, she has upgraded the asana finding immensely beneficial results within the yoga practices.

Rob Eschbach, C-IAYT, Certified Yoga Instructor

Rob Eschbach is Adjunct Professor of Yoga at Lansing Community College. He is Founder (1991) and President of the Yogic Sciences Research Foundation (YSRF), a non profit organization formed for the purpose of making the health benefits of yoga available to more people, through their programs and publications. Rob is author of the “Medical Yoga Manual vols 1&2”, “Yoga Studies”, and other publications, Certified Yoga Instructor since 1986, and experiential practitioner. Rob provides yoga therapy for people suffering from chronic conditions related to the joints, muscles, and ductless glands. He has been using and teaching the Flexibility Series as therapy for over 30 years. It is a very simple sequence that almost anyone can do. In fact, he has taught it in hospitals and other medical locations (such as brain injured facilities), and senior centers. Rob provides the series as preventive therapy, and as maintenance therapy,for chronic health conditions such as substance abuse, stress and anxiety,back pain, sleeping problems, and more. Rob provides “Introduction to Medical Yoga” workshops in conjunction with the City of Lansing, MI.

Mona Flynn, MS, C-IAYT, RYT500E, TRE Provider

Mona Flynn, has a masters degree in exercise physiology, with a niche in special populations and biomechanics of human movement. She is owner of Life Fit, Inc, a yoga, yoga therapy and pilates business. She is co-owner of Institute of Integrated Yoga Therapy, and author of Essential Yoga Practice. Looking at yoga through the lens of exercise physiology was her avenue in to yoga therapy.

Lilias Folan,E-RYT 500, RYT 500

Recognized as the “First Lady of Yoga” since her ground breaking 1972 PBS television series, Lilias! Yoga and You, Lilias Folan is regarded as one of America’s most knowledgeable and beloved Master Yoga teachers. Steeped in many different yoga traditions, in recent years Lilias relies strongly on her own personal experience and intuition to influence her teaching. In the Winter 2012-2013 issue of Yoga International Magazine Lilias was described as one of "four fearless women who changed Yoga's destiny." She has spent fifty plus years inspiring students and teachers throughout the USA, Canada and Europe with the benefits of yoga to body, mind and spirit. She continues to teach classes in the Cincinnati area. Teacher training is a special passion. Lilias is the author of three books on Yoga, including the highly acclaimed Lilias! Yoga - Your Guide to Enhancing Body, Mind, and Spirit in Midlife and Beyond. Lilias Folan is a Yoga Alliance Registered Teacher with ERYT 500 / RYT 500 hours. She is a long time founding member of International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT).

Michelle Fury, LPC, C-IAYT

Michelle Fury is a certified yoga therapist, specializing in yoga for kids and teens. She is the author of Using Yoga Therapy to Promote Mental Health in Children and Adolescents (Handspring, 2015). She has worked at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) for 12 years. She holds a master’s degree in Contemplative Psychotherapy from Naropa University and her licensed professional counselor (LPC) title through the State of Colorado. Her work with children, teens and families in the field of yoga therapy as a psychotherapeutic intervention has been featured in local, national and international media, in magazines such as U.S. News & World Report, the Wall Street Journal, Yoga Journal and Embody. She has also written extensively on the subject in professional magazines. Her goal is to provide yoga to kids of all ages in developing strong bodies, sharp minds and resiliency.

Maria Garre, M.Ed, C-IAYT, AP, AYT, ERYT-500T

A respected educator and leader in the field of Yoga + Ayurveda, Maria delivers practical and inspirational classes, courses that inspire all levels of students. Studying and teaching under her root teachers Shiva Rea, Vasant Lad and Ma India for the past 18 years, she is both a devoted student and humble teacher. Maria integrates more than 20+ years of Graduate Education in Biomedical Sciences and Philosophy, alongside Yoga and Ayurveda, to lead individuals and professionals in practice, learning, healing and life experiences.

Maria has owned, managed, directed programs at various colleges, organizations, studios and institutes around the country before becoming the founding Director for the New Mexico School of Yoga. Ray Greenberg

Ray Greenberg is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and a life long yoga practitioner. In the year 2000 Ray took his yoga teacher training with Sri Yogi Dharma Mittra in New York City. During this time Ray's career as an Art Publisher also drifted into selling yoga supplies which is now his full time occupation. As the Owner of Bheka Yoga supply, Ray inherited two extremely popular items in the Iyengar yoga community the round cotton bolsters used by Iyengar Denver, New York and many other studios and the Long Life Mats which are well loved for their durability and stickiness.

Since beginning his affiliation with SYTAR in 2014, Ray has been developing products with an eye toward supplying yoga therapists the best tools possible for serving their clients. The Breeze inflatable line of bolsters comes from this effort as does the Mysore Mini Yoga Strap which makes every door into a tractioning practice wall. The Teardrop Support had been in use, primarily in Texas, for many years when the people who were making it needed to move on to other endeavors and offered to Ray. Since it was the most effective thing he had ever tried to alleviate his radiating pain from 4 herniated discs, manufacturing it and promoting was an easy choice. Since that time Ray has also taken his training to be an Somatics Exercise Class Instructor and expects to have received his certificate of completion by late 2018.

Marsha Harold-Banks, BSEE, C-IAYT, YACEP, E-RYT 500, RPYT, RCYT

Marsha D. Banks-Harold, certified yoga therapist and owner of PIES Fitness Yoga Studio works privately and in small groups with special needs children and adults living with physical, sensory, cognitive, intellectual or mental impairments including ADD/ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, executive functioning disorder and down syndrome. In addition, she works with special populations including intimidated beginners, seniors, trauma survivors, stroke survivors and clients living with cancer, Parkinson’s, insomnia, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and joint replacements. Marsha, a wife of 26 years, is a mother to two sons and legal guardian of two additional sons thriving after early childhood complex trauma. She also works as an electrical engineer and serves as an officer in her church. Marsha’s passion in life is serving those living with special needs and conditions and those seeking lifestyle coaching and making yoga therapy accessible for everyone at the supportive, diverse, and inclusive environment she cultivates at PIES.

Soleil Hepner, PRYT, C-IAYT

Soleil Hepner, PRYT, C-IAYT, is Program Director for the Phoenix Rising School of Yoga Therapy. On faculty since 2006, she has co-developed the school’s IAYT accredited program to train new yoga therapists to craft successful, relevant, and poignant work as professional yoga therapists. Soleil was at the very first SYTAR 10 years ago and since then has been a CIC presenter (on Trauma) in 2016 and co-leader of the CIC Build your Business in 2017 – and again this year 2019. In private practice since 2002, she currently resides in San Diego where she is best known as a speaker and advocate to “bring the body to therapy” in the Mental Health and Recovery fields. Mary Hilliker, RDN, E-RYT-500, C-IAYT

Accessible and practical Yoga Therapy methods are woven into Mary’s DNA. Practicing in a more rural area in central Wisconsin has required her to meet each person where they are at, especially if they’ve never been exposed to yoga. A managing partner at 5 Koshas Yoga & Wellness in Wausau, WI, Mary practices Yoga Therapy in groups and with individuals as well as leads the River Flow Yoga Teacher Training School. Mary has been a student of Gary Kraftsow since 1999. Mary has worked with Gary Kraftsow and the American Viniyoga Institute in various capacities and is currently the Curriculum Coordinator for the American Viniyoga Institute’s Yoga Therapist Training. Her background in nutrition, health education and public health inform her approach to Yoga Therapy as well as her training of teachers and Yoga Therapists. One of her greatest joys is teaching accessible, sustainable and healing yoga to students, aspiring teachers and Yoga Therapists-in-training.

Sarah Imhoff Jones, C-IAYT, MFA, MA, PhD candidate

Sarah received a MA in depth psychology with an emphasis in somatic studies from Pacifica Graduate Institute, a MFA in Dance & Choreography from Texas Woman’s University, and BFA in Dance from Sam Houston State University. Other somatic certifications include Neuromuscular Fitness and Therapy, Pilates, Yoga, Ayurveda Yoga Specialist, Thai Massage, Sivananda Yoga Teacher Training, Advanced Sivananda Teacher Training, Ayurvedic Body Therapies, GYROTONC Expansion System and most recently as an IAYT-certified yoga therapist.

Recently back in school pursuing a Phd in Depth Psychology with an emphasis in somatics, current research weaves together Sarah’s lifelong love of movement and explores the intersection of Dance, Depth Psychology, and Yoga Therapy through an embodied process in development called Metamorphosis. Sarah had the opportunity to found and grow a yoga studio from 2001-2016 in Huntsville Texas and is now bringing her unique trainings in health and wellness to the Beaumont Texas area and online through www.sogayoga.com.

Ann Marie Johnston, MBM

Ann Marie Johnston is an entrepreneur, marketing consultant, yoga teacher and life-long student. Over the past 20 years, Ann Marie has worked as a marketing professional, consultant and strategist for small business’ across a range of industries in the United States & Australia.

Ann Marie knowledge extends from a unique academic path; traversing her B.A. in Fine Arts & Psychology; to post grad studies in Advertising; a Master’s in Business Marketing; together with over 800 hours in Yoga Teacher Training. Her marketing expertise lies in working with start-ups & small businesses who have finite resources; helping them to look more strategically at their business to ensure better outcomes & more impact.

After 5 years practicing Yoga, Ann Marie noticed many of her health challenges had abated and in 2013 she realized her dharma was to bring together her marketing skills & her passion for Yoga. She has since devoted her efforts and entrepreneurial drive to building YogaMate; a public resource with a professional suite of marketing tools that champions the therapeutic application of Yoga. Ann Marie is a mother of two young boys, whose ultimate aspiration is to help support getting Yogic tools into national school curricula.

De Jur Jones, C-IAYT, RYT

De Jur has been a yoga devotee since 2001. She attended Loyola Marymount University’s Yoga Therapy program. She teaches victim centered trauma, informed yoga to Commercially Sexually Exploited Children with UpRising Yoga. Serving this population sparked an interest that created a deep dive into learning everything she could about trauma from sex and human trafficking, how it affects victims and survivors and how yoga can help with embodiment, self-regulation and healing. This specialized training aided her in finding her niche to serve at-risk, under-resourced and highly traumatized communities and populations that show up with a myriad of emotional, physical and psychological damage. De Jur also teaches therapeutic, accessible yoga to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated adults with Prison Yoga+Meditaion. De Jur is a contributor to the Yoga Service Council’s best practices book series “Best Practices for Yoga in the Criminal Justice System”. She moonlights as a flight attendant.

Olga Kabel, C-IAYT, E-RYT 500, MA.Ed, MFA

Educated as a school teacher, Olga Kabel has been teaching yoga for over 15 years. She discovered the strongest connection to the Krishnamacharya/ T.K.V. Desikachar lineage. She had studied with Gary Kraftsow and American Viniyoga Institute her Viniyoga Teacher diploma in July 2006. She became an AVI-certified Yoga Therapist in April 2011 and an C-IAYT in 2017.

Olga is a founder of Sequence Wiz - a web-based yoga sequence builder that assists yoga teachers and yoga therapists in creating yoga practices. It also features simple, informational articles on how to sequence yoga practices for maximum effectiveness. Olga strongly believes in the healing power of this ancient discipline on every level: physical, psychological, and spiritual. She strives to make yoga practices accessible to students of any age, physical ability and medical history, and specializes in helping her students relieve muscle aches and pains, manage stress and anxiety, and develop mental focus.

Lisa Kaley-Isley, PhD, E-RYT 500, C-IAYT

Lisa Kaley-Isley is a clinical psychologist, yoga teacher, IAYT certified yoga therapist, and yoga educator. Lisa draws deeply on the wisdom and practices of both yoga and psychology. She integrates her experience in the two disciplines to provide personalized yoga therapy and to educate yoga therapists. Lisa is a long-term student of Yogarupa Rod Styker, Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, and Gary Kraftsow. These teachers and traditions influence her personal practice, teaching, and therapy. Lisa serves as a board member, tutor, supervisor, and mentor on the London-based Yogacampus Yoga Therapy Diploma course. She is the Director of the Yogacampus Yoga Therapy Clinic, a student-training clinic providing affordable access to yoga therapy in London. Lisa’s specialty foci are development of the therapeutic alliance and adaption of yoga to foster mental health. Lisa has conducted research trials evaluating the effects of yoga with adolescents and she has published articles on adapting yoga for youth.

Leslie Kazadi, C-IAYT, E-RYT 500

Leslie Kazadi has been honored to design and implement yoga research studies funded by the NIH for hyper kyphosis and for healthy older adults. She has collaborated with University of Southern California on pilot studies for Parkinson's Disease and Cystic Fibrosis. As a former director of an IAYT school, she and Sherry Brourman co-created a year-long internship program for new yoga therapists. Known for her creative and perceptive teaching style, Leslie’s motto is: KISS – keep is simple, silly! Her intention is to make yoga accessible to every body, teaching in an inclusive and approachable way. Believing in laughter as medicine, Leslie balances the depth of her knowledge with the lightness of her humor. Hansa Knox Johnson, C-IAYT, LMT, CKYT, BS

Hansa, C-IAYT is an ongoing student of yoga and Ayurveda. Hansa owns PranaYoga and Ayurveda Mandala in Denver. She integrates yoga classes, massage, yoga and ayurvedic yoga therapy into her offerings. Hansa teaches advanced Yoga Teacher Trainings and Yoga Therapy programs. Hansa is past president of Yoga Alliance and Yoga Teachers of Colorado. She has served on the Board of Yoga for the People, Kripalu Center, Sanga, International Yoga College and served on the Accreditation Committee for International Association of Yoga Therapy.

Michael Kuang, CPT, CES, RYT 500, C-IAYT

Michael is a certified personal trainer, corrective-exercise specialist, and yoga therapist. He left a 10-year corporate career in accounting to pursue health and wellness full time and now owns Syphon Fitness, where he works with clients individually or in small groups. He offers Yoga Therapy at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His yoga therapy practice focuses on helping those with chronic injuries and health conditions. His motto is "Stronger Foundations, Better Results".

Laura Kupperman, MS, C-IAYT

Laura Kupperman specializes in yoga for people affected by cancer. She is on the faculty of Inner Peace Yoga Therapy, hosts the popular Yoga Therapy Facebook group, and helps yoga and other wellness professionals grow their business. Laura has been a career and business coach since 1999 and is delighted to be sharing her entrepreneurial experience and enthusiasm with others for the second time as co-chair of this CIC session. She is based in Boulder, Colorado; presents and teaches around the U.S.; and works with coaching clients around the globe. Learn more at laurakupperman.com

Elizabeth Laino Corral, C-IAYT, YTRx 800, E-RYT 500

Elizabeth has taught prenatal, postnatal female balancing hatha style yoga for many years. She completed the LMU 4 levels of training, POLY program, helped to create a yoga therapy program at the Venice Family Clinic in CA where she applied her yoga therapy skills, co-piloted a yoga therapy program at USC Wellness center in CA. Additionally trained in PTSD, meditation and yoga nidra. She is a reiki master trained at Kripalu and has worked with an energy doctor for the past 9 yrs.

Elizabeth currently teaches at La Maida Wellness Institute in No. Hollywood, CA incorporating yoga therapy into back & breath classes and restorative classes. She teaches chair yoga to seniors with a therapeutic approach. As a woman who has experienced difficult menopause symptoms it was't until diving deep into yoga therapy studies that she found the relief. She works to help other women do the same; working one on one with women experiencing these types of symptoms as well as helping older people regain vitality and a better sense of knowing their physical and emotional states.

Smitha Mallaiah, C-IAYT, E-RYT 500

Smitha Mallaiah works as a Mind-Body Intervention Specialist at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer center’s Integrative medicine program. She received her Master’s in Yoga therapy from S-VYASA, Yoga University at Bangalore India. Smitha has been practicing yoga therapy for specific aliments for over 14 years at various hospitals and clinics. She has worked extensively in the area of Cancer research using yoga therapy for the past 8 years contributing to yoga research. She is also a certified yoga therapist from International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). She also serves as Program Director at VYASA Houston an organization dedicated to education, research and service through yoga.
At MD Anderson she is involved in Developing and teaching yoga research interventions for different Cancer populations, like Breast, lung, Brain and Head and neck cancers. She also works with Couples, Caregivers going through cancer journey using yoga Therapy. She has co-authored few yoga publications and has presented her work at national and international conferences on the efficacy of yoga in Cancer care.

Jill Miller, C-IAYT, E-RYT

Jill is the co-founder of Tune Up Fitness Worldwide and creator of the self-care fitness formats Yoga Tune Up® and The Roll Model® Method. With more than 30 years of study in anatomy and movement, she's a pioneer in forging links between the worlds of fitness, yoga, massage, athletics and pain management. She has trained thousands of movement educators, clinicians, and manual therapists to incorporate her paradigm shifting self-care fitness programming into athletic and medical facility programs internationally. Her original programs are found at 24 Hour Fitness, Equinox, YogaWorks, collegiate and professional sports teams. She and her team of 500+ trainers help you to live better in your body with an emphasis on proprioception, mobility, breath mechanics and recovery.

Paul Mross, E-RYT 200, LMT

Paul has taught yoga for over 18 years. For 5 years now, Paul has been a researcher for studies conducted with UW-Madison that examine yoga’s effect on fall prevention. He has adapted this intervention for the Deaf and hard of hearing community. He has presented at multiple conferences, including a poster presentation at the IAYT’s SYR symposium (2016). Paul has co-founded a nonprofit called YAFA: Yoga Accessible for All (https://yafayoga.org/ ) whose mission is to design and provide access to safe and quality yoga wellness practices to everyone regardless of ability, age, background, condition or resources. Mary Northey, C-IAYT

Mary Northey, C-IAYT, Dean Kripalu School of Integrative Yoga Therapy. Mary served on the International Association of Yoga Therapist accreditation committee, assuring safe and effective practices for Yoga Therapy. In addition to her work with Kripalu she has a Yoga Therapy practice in Northern California. She developed Integrative Mindful Balance – a yoga program she has brought to diverse populations, which expands on her passion to empower clients and help foster their well-being regardless of age, gender, health condition, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status. Mary’s yoga therapy style is influenced by her masterful teachers including: Joseph Le Page, Nischala Joy Devi, Eleanor Criswell, and Maria Mendola.

Romy Phillips, C-IAYT, E-RYT 500

Romy is a certified yoga instructor and yoga therapist who has been teaching since 2001. She has studied many styles of yoga but primarily practices Ashtanga and Iyengar. She teaches classes and leads teacher trainings, workshops, and intensives in the US and internationally. Anatomy, kinesiology, and injury management are the highlights of her trainings. She currently teaches at YogaWorks in Maryland and has taught at various studios in Los Angeles and numerous cities in Asia, including Tokyo, Osaka, Beijing, Shenzhen, and Saigon.

She has a BFA (Maryland Institute, College of Art) and MFA (Columbia University). She completed several yoga teacher trainings, including Anusara, YogaWorks 200HR (with Lisa Walford and Birgitte Kristen), and YogaWorks 300HR with her mentor, Birgitte Kristen.

Romy took her years of experience studying movement in dance (ballet, modern, and jazz) and yoga and is sharing that in her new book Yoga Forma: A Visual Resource Guide for the Spine and Lower Back (Plain Sight Publishing, 2018). Anne Pitman (M.Sc., C-IAYT) has her masters in Kinesiology and is the Director of the School of Embodied Yoga Therapy (www.embodiedyogatherapy.com), with over 35 years of teaching experience. She facilitates the Year to Live (Stephen Levine) and has studied intensively at the Orphan Wisdom School with Stephen Jenkinson (author of Griefwalker and Die Wise). She speaks internationally, and writes about Yoga Therapy for those facing cancer. Anne is a practicing Yoga Therapist at the Ottawa Integrative Cancer Centre (www.oicc.ca) where she accompanies people, listening to body, mind and spirit, moving and breathing as they face cancer, as well as helping people, in their ending of days, to die well.

Shelly Prosko is a physiotherapist, yoga therapist and educator dedicated to empowering individuals to create and sustain meaningful lives by teaching and advocating for the integration of yoga therapy into modern healthcare. She is a respected pioneer of PhysioYoga, a combination of physiotherapy and yoga therapy. Shelly guest lectures at medical colleges, teaches in yoga therapy schools, speaks internationally at medical conferences and offers onsite and online continuing education courses for yoga and healthcare professionals on topics surrounding pelvic health, chronic pain, compassion and professional burnout. Robin Rothenberg, C-IAYT

Robin is the director of Essential Yoga Therapy, an IAYT Accredited Therapist Training Program. For the past three years, Robin has been immersed in extensive study of the breath — rediscovering the roots of pranayama through the lens of respiratory science and functional breathing. This inquiry has profoundly transformed Robin’s personal practice, orientation to teaching, and radically improved her health and vitality. Restoring Prana: A Guide to Pranayama and Healing Through the Breath; for yoga teachers, therapists and other health-care practitioners will be published by Singing Dragon in Spring 2019, and is the culmination of her investigation. Robin has been involved in yoga research since 2000. She is the author of The Essential Low Back Program: Relieve Pain and Restore Health. Jason Scholder, YTT 200

Jason Scholder is a certified yoga teacher, best known for inventing Three Minute Egg® yoga props. Since creating his first Egg in 2005, he has collaborated with world renowned yoga masters to develop a comprehensive training program for teaching and practicing yoga with Eggs. When he’s not at home with his daughter, Jason can be found leading Egg workshops around the world, and performing stand up comedy. His practice and his teaching style combine a strong foundation in principles of alignment, with a versatility that is easily applied to multiple styles of yoga and physical therapy, and he will probably make you laugh or at least smile. Like many yoga practitioners and teachers, Jason turned to yoga in order to heal from his own injuries. As a result, he has developed a strong understanding of what an asana practice needs in order to remain sustainable, and how the Eggs can help. Karen Schwartz, LMSW, TCTSY-F, C-IAYT

Karen Schwartz is a certified Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga facilitator, yoga therapist and yoga teacher with more than 25 years of experience helping people achieve better physical, mental and emotional health. Karen's greatest passion is helping people find the freedom to be their authentic selves, using an individualized, holistic mind-body approach. She has worked with people coping with a wide range of issues including sexual trauma, eating disorders, addiction, domestic violence, depression and anxiety, as well as with those seeking personal growth, general wellness and a deeper expression of their spirituality.

Karen holds a master's degree in social work from Fordham University and a postgraduate certificate in contemplative clinical practice from Smith College School of Social Work. She is also a certified meditation teacher, Reiki practitioner and freelance writer whose work has appeared in a variety of online and print publications, including Yoga Therapy Today. Matthew J. Taylor, PT, PhD, C-IAYT

Dr. Taylor has 37 years as a leader in integrative rehabilitation and is the editor of the graduate textbook, "Fostering Creativity In Rehabilitation”. He is past-president of the board of directors of IAYT, chair of their rehab CIC, and teaches nationally on business development for Yoga therapists. Matt is on the IAYT research journal’s editorial board. He is leading integrative pain care and addiction policy development on national interprofessional taskforces for IAYT. Presently he’s authored a book for yoga professionals titled, “Yoga Therapy as a Creative Response to Pain” www.smartsafeyoga.com

Tina Walter, C-IAYT, E-RY

is an Integrative Oncology Yoga Therapist. She provides
interventions to patients while they receive outpatient chemotherapy and care on the inpatient
units at Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky hospitals. Tina teaches group classes for people in and post cancer treatment for the Cancer Support Community. She is a registered yoga teacher certified by The International Association of Yoga Therapists, Yoga Alliance, and is a Staff Educator for both Integral Yoga’s New York and Virginia Academies. Tina has completed extensive trainings to teach yoga asana postures and technique, anatomy, meditation, and pranayama.

After personally experiencing the powerful benefits of yoga while practicing and teaching, Tina’s journey led her to seek a 300-hour advanced training called YCat Yoga Therapy In Cancer and Chronic Illness. The YCat program, founded by an RN, uses a body, organ, and system orientation. Tina often communicates many of the physiological processes that these yoga practices can benefit during individualized patient visits, always teaching them techniques for home use. “Teaching patients not only the ‘how to’ of yoga, but the ‘why’ really empowers them."

Tina has presented her research at local and national conferences on the efficacy of yoga therapy during cancer treatment, and is currently co-authoring a manuscript for publication on a similar topic.
