For the last fourteen years, I have been teaching Yoga to People with Cancer and Chronic Illness in the health care setting--outpatient and inpatient--in NYC and Nashville Tennessee. I currently teach in Yoga research at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing under the supervision of Dr. Sheila Ridner. Following the sudden death of my long time mentor and colleague, Jnani Chapman, I am directing and teaching the YCat: Yoga Therapy in Cancer and Chronic Illness Professional Training through Integral Yoga in New York and Virginia. My passion is educating and teaching students with cancer and chronic illness and supporting them during every stage of illness--from diagnosis to recovery or through the dying process at end of life. My motto is "Wherever you are, Yoga is there for you." My approach is through meeting people where they are and adapting all the limbs of Yoga to best meet their needs. I am grateful to my teachers and mentors: Jnani Chapman, Cheri Clampett, Integral Yoga and the teachings of Swami Satchidananda, Sivakami Sumar, Jivamukti Yoga, Dianna Miller and Dr. Lawrence LeShan. I also am influenced by the work of Dr. Dean Ornish, Michael Lerner, Rachel Naomi Remen and Nora Vimala Pozzi. My other passion is in educating other teachers and mentoring them to work safely with people with cancer and chronic illness. The YCat training program is, to me, the most comprehensive and profound training I have taken and I am honored to teach for this program.
