In 1965, soon after Lynn and her husband Jon arrived in India with the Peace Corps , she began studying yoga with her first teacher, the wife of Shri Yogandra in Santa Cruz just outside of Mumbai. During this time, she also met Swami Chinmayananda and began studying Vedanta at his ashram. After the Peace Corp, rather than return home, Lynn and her husband stayed on in India. She continued her studies of Indian culture and meditation while making a living designing clothes and as a commercial photographer. When she moved to New Delhi a few years later, she studied with Yogiraj Siaram and other yoga teachers one on one, most of whom did not teach in the west. She then met the Tibetan Buddhist teacher, the Venerable Khamtrul Rinpoche and in 1969, after her son was born, she and her family moved to Tashi Jong in Himachal Pradesh to study with him.
In the 1990’s when her children were older, she began searching for a scientific approach on how to use Yoga for healing. In her quest, she completed 4 teacher trainings including Yoga of the Heart with Niscula Devi. Then she took a workshop with Viniyoga master Gary Kraftsow. Convinced that this was what she’d been looking for, she enrolled in his 5 year 1000 hour comprehensive yoga teacher and yoga therapy training. One of Lynn’s teachers in this training was Robin Rothenberg. Since completing her training in 2003, she has taught over 7000 hours of yoga therapy classes in Sonoma and Marin. Her students have ranged from pre and post natal women, healthy students seeking to maintain their health, to patients with chronic and severe challenges, cancer survivors, and those recovering from operations and accidents. She teaches both group classes and privately. She is on the faculty of of SMC of Marin in their IAYT recognized yoga therapy training and mentors yoga teachers in yoga therapy.
